A Fisherman Catches a “Giant Sea Monster” – A 101.6 kg, 2.13 m Long Flounder.
In 2015, a young man named Erik Axner from Sweden unexpectedly caught a massive flounder during a fishing trip with friends in the waters off the Lofoten Islands in Norway.
Axner had to spend over an hour to “conquer” the fish.
Due to the enormous size of the flounder, Axner was unable to lift it out of the water for a photo. Therefore, he had to tie the fish’s tail to the side of the boat and jump into the icy water to capture the memorable moment.
Axner recounted: “I wanted to take some pictures with the fish, and the only way to do that without harming it was to jump into the water. Being underwater with such a giant fish was a memorable experience of a lifetime.”
After taking photos with the flounder to showcase his achievement, Axner decided to release it back into the sea.
Before releasing the “monster” flounder, Axner made sure to weigh and measure it. The fish was confirmed to be 2.13 m long and weigh 101.6 kg, which means it could provide around 250 fillet portions.
Since seafood restaurants typically charge about $38 for a main dish made from flounder, the fish caught by Axner could be worth over $9,200 (approximately 233 million VND).
