The fish opens its mouth to reveal bright red teeth.
It is known that this is the Odonus niger, commonly referred to as the red-toothed triggerfish. They have extremely sharp red teeth, with two prominent fangs visible even when their mouths are closed. These teeth are used to crush hard-shelled prey and for self-defense.
These fish have a thick, hard blue skin and can be found from the eastern coast of Africa to the Marquesas and Society Islands. They can also be encountered as far north as southern Japan and as far south as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. In Vietnam, they are found in small numbers around the central islands.
This species typically has a dark purple or deep blue body with greenish streaks on its head and light blue edges on the tail fin, growing up to 50 cm in length.
