A man used a kayak—a type of boat powered by human strength through paddling—to venture into a wetland area. He then proceeded to fish in these waters.
However, a surprising event occurred when he reeled in his line; a ‘giant’ fish measuring 2 meters long and weighing 100 kg was caught. The man struggled to lift this heavy fish onto his kayak.
It turned out to be the Arapaima or Pirarucu (Scientific name: Arapaima)—a species native to the Amazon River and Essequibo River in South America. He mentioned that he had caught many large fish before, but none compared to this one.
Catching a “super giant” fish in the Amazon River.
The Arapaima is one of the largest freshwater fish species in the world, capable of reaching lengths of up to 3 meters. The average size of an adult fish is about 100–200 kg and approximately 2 meters long, while the world record fish measured up to 4 meters and weighed 300 kg.
This rare fish is listed in the World Red List, so after catching this Arapaima, the man released it back into the water.
