Same-Sex Flamingo Couple Caught in Parenting Behavior:
In a bird sanctuary in England, two male flamingos were observed stealing eggs from heterosexual pairs to incubate and care for the hatchlings just like typical parents. Carlos and Fernando, the names of this flamingo couple, have been partners for five years. Nigel Jarrett from the bird sanctuary in southwestern England explained to the “Daily Mail”: “Carlos and Fernando are a couple who have been together for five years.” The two are very loving parents, nurturing three flamingo chicks exceptionally well.
Jarrett also noted that while homosexuality in animals is not uncommon, this is the first documented case found in flamingos. During mating season, Carlos and Fernando display their feathers and dance just like other typical flamingos. Jarrett pointed out an interesting fact: every year, flamingos seek new mates, but Carlos and Fernando have remained loyal to each other for the past five years.
Could it be that with only two males in their group, they have to stay together since there is no one else to change partners with?
