Severe Flooding Along Dyke 42 (Left Lam Dyke) from Do Luong District to Vinh City (Nghe An) Due to Heavy Rainfall
In recent days, heavy rainfall from upstream has severely flooded the area of Nghe An, causing many low-lying villages to worry about landslides, with several needing urgent evacuations. Although the rain has subsided, the volume of water flowing down from upstream remains high, resulting in flooding in the downstream areas. Hundreds of households in Anh Son, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen districts, and Vinh City are currently living in conditions where floodwaters have submerged their homes.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dong from Hung Linh Commune in Hung Nguyen District stated: “Our community outside Dyke 42 faces this situation every year. When the rainy season arrives, there’s always anxiety because the Lam River rises too high. Since the end of June 2011, we have already endured two flood evacuations. The entire villages 1, 2, and 3 of Hung Linh Commune have been isolated due to the floodwaters from the Lam River, which have risen 1-2 meters, leaving us with no choice but to paddle a boat to buy food or take our children to school…”
Along Dyke 42, many villages with hundreds of households have been flooded due to the rising waters of the Lam River, cutting off transportation and making movement difficult. Notably, hundreds of students in the area are currently unable to attend school.
