Recently, Lucara Diamond, a Canadian diamond exploration and mining company, announced the discovery of a gem-quality white diamond weighing 1,080.1 carats in Botswana.

In a press release issued on August 8, the company stated that the diamond measures 82.2×42.8×34.2mm and was found in the XRT processing unit at the Karowe Diamond Mine located in Central Botswana, approximately 512 kilometers from the capital city, Gaborone.
The diamond is described as a top-quality Type IIa white gem, recovered from the direct processing of ore from the company’s mine.
This marks the fourth diamond exceeding 1,000 carats discovered at the Karowe mine since 2015.
Previous notable discoveries include the Sewelô diamond weighing 1,758 carats in 2019, a 1,174-carat diamond in 2021, and the Lesedi La Rona diamond at 1,109 carats in 2015.
Lucara Diamond owns 100% of the Karowe diamond mine in Botswana, which has been in production since 2012 and plays a crucial role in the company’s operational and development activities.
