Apple Computer is set to launch an environmentally friendly service for customers purchasing new Macintosh computers by offering free recycling of old computers.
This Cupertino-based company announced that its plan to accept old computers will begin next month, in June. Customers in the United States who purchase new Mac computers through Apple’s online sales system or at any Apple retail store will be provided with free shipping and recycling for their old computers.
Currently, Apple retail stores are offering a free recycling service for old iPod music players. Additionally, customers residing in Cupertino can bring their old Mac computers directly to the company’s headquarters, while other customers may be required to pay a $30 recycling fee for the shipping of their old computers.

They stated that the company has moved closer to major computer manufacturers like Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc.
However, environmental groups also believe that Apple still needs to do more, and these organizations plan to submit a proposal at Apple’s shareholder meeting on Thursday, urging the company to explore measures to improve recycling efforts.
