The video captures a brave African bullfrog defending itself against a giant bird by jumping onto its face.
Michael Rothman, 32 years old, witnessed an impressive scene while exploring the wilderness in Kruger National Park, South Africa. He saw a large hammer-headed stork searching for food and attacking an African bullfrog.
The remarkable video recorded by Michael Rothman shows this giant bird trying to grasp the frog with its beak. However, determined not to become the bird’s meal, the frog continuously jumped up and hit the bird in the face, stunning it.

Michael stated: “This was an unbelievable situation that I had never seen before, and I couldn’t believe that the African bullfrog didn’t give up.
I was truly amazed that the frog survived. It continuously jumped onto the hammer-headed stork’s face and never gave up. The struggle lasted about 30 minutes until the frog finally managed to get to the water and swim away.
The hammer-headed stork continued searching for its lost meal but never found the frog again.”
This dramatic example highlights the natural battle between prey and predator, showcasing the persistence and strength of creatures in the wild.
African bullfrogs are among the largest frog species, with males weighing up to 1.4 kg. Females are about half the size of males, which is unusual given that in most amphibian species, females are larger. They are opportunistic carnivores, feeding on insects, small rodents, reptiles, small birds, and other amphibians. Hammer-headed storks are medium-sized wading birds, standing at 56 cm tall and weighing 470 g. Their head, with a curved bill and distinctive coloration on the back, resembles a hammer. This species is distributed across Africa, Madagascar, and Arabia, inhabiting wetlands such as lakes, river mouths, marshes, riverbanks, and rocky coastlines in Tanzania. |
