“Clean Energy Starts Now!” |
During a two-day meeting held in London on November 1, ministers of Energy and Environment from G8 countries, along with counterparts from nations such as China and India, will discuss strategies to develop clean energy sources and plans to combat climate change.
This conference follows the climate agreement reached at the G8 summit in July in Gleneagles, which emphasized the importance of climate-friendly technologies such as clean coal, nuclear energy, and renewable energy sources.
“The urgent requirement now is for us to find ways to cooperate and develop, as well as share information to help the world tackle climate change,” stated UK Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett, who is presiding over the conference.
The meeting will focus on technology and energy, examining the transition to a low-carbon society and how to achieve this goal promptly. The UK Secretary of State for Trade and Industry noted that energy technology plays a crucial role in addressing future energy and climate challenges. He remarked, “This meeting is an opportunity to push for action on climate and energy, fostering dialogue and commitment with energy-intensive economies like India and China.”
From November 28 to December 9, another meeting in Canada will also review climate plans following the expiration of the Kyoto Protocol in 2012.
