Aside from the unusual color, the shape and smell of these black yolk goose eggs are no different from regular goose eggs.
Recently, a man named Chu from Zhejiang, China, stirred public interest by posting images of extremely unusual black yolk goose eggs on social media. According to Mr. Chu, his friend’s goose has laid many eggs with black yolks like this, which, at first glance, look just like traditional salted eggs, making them truly bizarre.

Mr. Chu mentioned that these eggs were laid by a gray goose owned by his friend. That day, he visited his friend’s house and took some goose eggs home. While cooking, he cracked open the eggs and was surprised to find the yolks were shiny black; his family was equally astonished and speechless.
However, aside from the unusual color, the shape and smell of the eggs are indistinguishable from those of regular goose eggs. The eggshells showed no signs of decay, indicating they were indeed fresh eggs.
After Mr. Chu’s post went viral on social media, an expert in poultry farming suggested that if the eggs did not have an unusual smell due to environmental pollution or artificial factors, it might be due to “natural pigmentation.”
Mr. Chu also noted that his friend’s geese are free-range, often eating mulberries that fall when ripe. The ripe mulberries are dark purple, and it is possible that these geese consumed too many ripe berries, causing the yolks to turn black. However, this is merely a hypothesis and not entirely convincing.
Curious to understand this phenomenon better, Mr. Chu consulted other knowledgeable friends in the poultry field and learned that such an occurrence is typically impossible. After hearing about the rare black yolk goose eggs, the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences expressed interest and plans to conduct in-depth research. Currently, there is no official explanation.
