A video from a fisherman in Maine, USA, shows an Atlantic wolf fish having killed all the lobsters after getting trapped in a net, according to Newsweek.
Jacob Knowles, the individual who posted the video, had to struggle with the wolf fish as it attempted to bite him with its sharp teeth, Newsweek reported last week.
“It killed everything in the net,” Knowles said, pointing towards a pile of motionless lobsters. He then directed the fish’s mouth towards the pile of lobsters. When the fish grabbed a lobster, Knowles threw it back into the sea.
“That was scary,” he said while dodging the fish’s jaws.
Captured wolf fish.
The Atlantic wolf fish is a formidable predator. With long, sharp teeth akin to those of a shark, their bite can be quite painful. This species can grow up to 1.5 meters long and weigh as much as 18 kilograms. Their primary diet consists of shellfish, crustaceans, and echinoderms.
The video has garnered millions of views and hundreds of thousands of reactions on social media. Some users expressed their surprise at the fish’s unusual appearance and sounds.
Knowles is known for frequently posting videos about the life of a tuna fisherman on TikTok. In addition to lobsters, he has also caught other bizarre creatures—like this wolf fish—in his nets.
“We don’t often catch this species—they are protected,” he mentioned in the video. “We release them as soon as we catch them.”
