On July 16, Trần Minh Lâm, the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoài Hải Commune, Hoài Nhơn Town (Bình Định), confirmed that a whale recently appeared in the waters of this commune, delighting many local fishermen.
The whale was spotted on the afternoon of July 15 in the coastal area of Diêu Quang Village, Hoài Hải Commune.
“This is very exciting news. The commune has arranged for personnel to be on standby today in case the whale appears again. Local fishermen will film it and share it with everyone,” Mr. Lâm stated.
It is reported that this whale is nearly 8 meters long and weighs about 1 ton. Upon its appearance near the shore, the whale was swimming alone. After it surfaced to feed, it swam away.
Fisherman Huỳnh Ngọc Đệ, who captured the moment the whale appeared, expressed his surprise at seeing the whale breach the surface and then feed.
At that time, Đệ and a friend had rowed out to sea to fish. They stopped about 1 kilometer from the shore to cast their lines.

“When my friend started to cast his line and lay back on the boat waiting, I suddenly saw the whale’s mouth rise above the water. I was very surprised, and then my friend was overwhelmed because it was his first time witnessing this,” Đệ recounted.
