The incident occurred at a residence in South Lake Tahoe, California, USA.
Coyote attacking a pet dog.
In the video, a dog is lying in the sun on the porch, while a man sits a few meters away in a chair. After a moment, the dog suddenly jumps up and assumes a defensive posture, seemingly sensing something.
Immediately after, a coyote rushes in and grabs the pet dog. The predator attempts to bite the dog’s neck and drag it away. Realizing what was happening, the man quickly runs over, kicks the coyote, and chases it away.
Fortunately, the pet dog managed to escape from the coyote’s jaws and ran back shortly afterward. At this moment, the man hurriedly embraced his pet and looked around to ensure the predator would not return to attack.
Coyotes (Canis latrans) are omnivorous animals commonly found in North America, typically weighing between 20 – 50 pounds. They are pack hunters that usually operate in small groups, with a slender build that is smaller than that of gray wolves, yet they are agile and resourceful.
Coyotes primarily hunt rabbits, rodents, fish, frogs, and deer. Additionally, these nimble and adaptable creatures also consume insects, snakes, fruits, grasses, and carrion. They can run at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
Generally, North American coyotes are very wary of humans and rarely appear or attack people. They cause very little trouble for humans unless they raid food from other animals at farms, leading to conflicts.
