This is an interactive tool that allows people to observe the flow of wind around the world in a spectacular way.
>>> Launch of the first world map of Earth’s forest area
The name of this website is Earth Wind Map, which depicts the wind flowing across our planet with winding lines and outlines of continents below.
A gentle breeze is represented by a thin green line, strong winds are shown in bright yellow, and the strongest gusts are displayed in bright red. Users can rotate the globe on the screen with their mouse and click on specific locations to view wind speeds.
This website was designed by software engineer Cameron Beccario, visually representing global weather forecasts from supercomputers. The data used is sourced from the National Environmental Protection Agency, the National Weather Service of the United States, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It is updated every three hours.
This global wind map was inspired by the wind map of the United States created by designers Fernanda Viegas and Martin Wattenberg, which shows air currents moving across the U.S. but is only a monochromatic map.
