On the Way Home, a Couple Shocked to Witness a Black Snake Trying to Vomit Another Snake
Seeing a snake by the roadside in Texas, USA, surprised Christopher Reynolds and his wife. Hiding beneath a pile of leaves, the large snake appeared to have something protruding from its mouth.
Not long after Reynolds turned on his camera to capture the scene, the black snake vomited another snake of similar size. Even more shocking was the fact that the snake being regurgitated was still alive. Reynolds believed that upon noticing their presence, the snake got scared, abandoned its meal, and retreated.
Although the type of snake seen in the video has not yet been identified, this is not the first time a snake has been recorded swallowing its own kind. Previously, an eastern brown snake, one of the most venomous snakes in the world, startled a woman in Australia when it swallowed a carpet python in her backyard.
Reynolds may be correct in suggesting that his presence caused the snake to regurgitate its meal. According to Kenney Krysko, a herpetologist and collection manager at the Florida Museum of Natural History, snakes will do this as a defense mechanism.

Snakes do not chew their food and require time to digest what they have swallowed. However, larger prey can slow them down.
Krysko stated: “Anyone who keeps snakes knows that you should leave them alone after they eat, as you can make them regurgitate.”
Reynolds confirmed that the clip was filmed in Newton, about 150 miles from Houston. He mentioned on YouTube that they discovered the snake while returning home from a visit to his mother.
