Miners in Alaska Discover a Massive Gold Nugget Weighing Up to 10kg.
One of the largest gold nuggets ever found is currently for sale in Dallas for $1 million, 23 years after it was first discovered in Alaska.
This gold nugget was found in the Alaska mining area in 1998.
Miner Barry Clay discovered the 10kg gold nugget in the Alaska mining area in 1998. He found this valuable relic from the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896 while operating a bulldozer along the banks of Swift Creek.
Realizing he had struck gold, Clay buried the nugget under an Alaska tree before deciding what to do with it.
Eventually, he chose to send the gold bar to experts for evaluation. They confirmed that it is the second-largest gold nugget ever found in the Western Hemisphere and the largest ever discovered in Alaska.
The individual who purchased the gold bar from Clay over 20 years ago is now bringing it to auction in Dallas along with a collection of other valuable items.
A spokesperson for the Heritage auction site stated: “Alaska Centennial is the largest gold nugget ever found in the state of Alaska. It was discovered in 1998 near the town of Ruby, Alaska. Barry Clay unearthed this significant find and immediately made history. Later, Clay sold the gold bar to a private collector, and it remains in their possession.”
The Alaska Centennial is noted as the largest gold nugget found in Alaska, only smaller than the “Boot of Cortez” nugget in Mexico, which weighs over 11kg.
In this auction, besides the Alaska Centennial gold nugget, there are also two native gold nuggets discovered in the jungles of Venezuela during the 1980s. Experts predict they will sell for $300,000 and $600,000 respectively.
