Yesterday (June 27), Google officially released the desktop search application and sidebar, Google Desktop 4.
The latest version, Google Desktop 4, offers tighter integration with Google’s services and adds support for “Google Gadgets.”
Similar to the gadgets supported in the Windows Sidebar of Vista or those found in the Mac OS X dashboard, Google Gadgets are compact applications—ranging from games to system utilities. Google has provided an SDK and Gadget Designer toolkit to assist developers.
“Now you can easily manage your projects and files, customize gadgets using a visual interface, edit code snippets, preview changes, review error messages, and automatically package gadget products….,” said Google expert Satish Sampath.
Along with the launch of Google Desktop 4, developers also introduced several new gadgets.
Google Desktop 4 is also connected to Google’s personal web page creation service. Google Gadgets can be added to the application’s sidebar or any display area on the screen.
Other new features include the removal of indexing for all information on the PC and the ability to delete temporarily stored search history content.
