Yesterday, Google launched a new service that allows users to create their own personal web pages and publish them on the Internet.
Google Page Creator – currently still in its experimental version – features a simple and user-friendly interface. Users can enter content, upload images, and publish their personal web pages containing multiple links without needing to have knowledge of HTML web programming. Google provides users with 100MB of storage space on its servers to creatively design their websites according to their preferences.
Similar to other Google services, this new offering is completely free. To use this service, users need a free Gmail account. The user’s website will have an address in the format http://yourgmailusername.googlepages.com.
Google Page Creator is compatible with various browsers including Internet Explorer 6.0 and Firefox 1.0 or higher versions.
With the new Page Creator service, Google has clearly defined the distinction between a “website” and a “web page.” A web page is a single page with its own web address, while a “website” is a collection of web pages that share a common subdomain or part of a URL like “xxx.com.” “In this initial testing phase, users can only create web pages using our service,” the provider stated.
Temporary Suspension of Gmail Registration?
On the same day, the provider also announced a temporary halt on new registrations for the free Gmail email service due to the overwhelming number of users.
“Currently, the number of users of our service has reached such a large figure that we can no longer provide additional new Gmail accounts,” Google stated in an announcement on the Google Page Creator service page.
