Through this initiative, Google aims to honor the art of Đờn ca tài tử in recognition of the 10th anniversary of UNESCO listing this form of artistic expression as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity (December 5, 2013 – December 5, 2023).
Google honors the art of Đờn ca tài tử.
Đờn ca tài tử is a folk art form unique to the southern region of Vietnam. This art form emerged and developed in the late 19th century, originating from ritual music, Hue royal court music, and folk literature.
It is a musical and vocal art created by ordinary people, particularly young men and women from rural areas in the South, who sing after hours of labor.
Đờn ca tài tử is typically performed in relatively small spaces, such as homes, during weddings, memorial services, birthdays, festivals, and after harvest seasons, often taking place on bright moonlit nights in villages.
The art of Đờn ca tài tử flourishes in 21 provinces and cities in the South, including: An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria – Vung Tau, Ca Mau, Can Tho, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Long An, Ninh Thuan, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Ho Chi Minh City, and Vinh Long.
Ten years ago, on December 5, 2013, Đờn ca tài tử was recognized by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
