The research company “HitWise and NetRatings” has recently released a report indicating that Google’s information search structure has experienced remarkable growth over the past period, officially “outpacing” other formidable competitors such as Yahoo and Microsoft…
Currently, Google holds a staggering 43.1% of the global search market share, with Yahoo in second place at 28%, and Microsoft’s MSN trailing in third with 12.9% market share.
From April 2005 to April 2006, Google’s market share increased to 42.7%, up from 36.5% in 2005, while Yahoo saw a decline to 28% from 30.7% in April 2005. MSN also suffered a significant drop from 16.1% in April 2005 to just 13.2% in March 2006. Ask.com also experienced a slight reduction, decreasing from 6.1% in April 2005 to 5.8% in April 2006. Time Warner’s AOL was also sidelined by Google, with its market share dropping to only 5.8% in April 2006 from 9% in April 2005.
In March 2006 alone, there were 2.9 billion searches conducted on Google, while Yahoo recorded 1.3 billion searches.
In the realm of web-based email services, Yahoo remains at the top with a commanding 42.4% market share; Microsoft’s Hotmail follows in second place with 22.9% market share… Despite boasting an “unmatched” Inbox capacity, Google’s Gmail holds a mere 2.54% market share, which is considered disappointing.
Charlene Li, an analyst at Forrester Research, commented: “Although Google has easily captured a vast number of Internet users over the past five years, it can just as easily lose its customers. Information search is just one of many services on the Internet; Google is currently too diversified in numerous application investment areas, and at some point, they may expose vulnerabilities…”
