Google has temporarily closed its Google Analytics service to new users as the company is unable to meet the demand after offering a week of free service.
Visitors to the Google Analytics page see the following message: “Thank you for your interest in Google Analytics. Google Analytics has experienced an overwhelming amount of demand, and we must temporarily limit the number of new sign-ups as we are increasing our capacity.”
The company charges $199 per month for this service. Users are asked to provide their name and email address so the company can verify them once they begin accepting new accounts again.
This marks the first upgrade for Google Analytics since its launch last week, as it faced severe issues due to the high number of users accessing the service.
Capacity issues began to arise on November 15, but it appeared to stabilize on November 16. However, due to the continued increase in demand on Friday (November 18), Google decided to temporarily halt the acceptance of new subscriptions. A Google spokesperson did not disclose how many users registered the previous week; however, those who were already using the service would not face any issues with Google Analytics.
This situation also affected Jeff Saville, the Direct-to-Consumer Marketing Director at a California footwear company, who has been using Google Analytics for two years. Saville noticed that the service seemed to be running slower on Monday, November 14, but later stabilized and functioned reasonably well.
This service, previously known as Urchin on Demand, allows users to monitor their website traffic for analytics purposes.
