The first liquefied gas carrier of China was launched on Wednesday in Shanghai, marking a new milestone for Chinese shipbuilding technology.
The construction of liquefied gas carriers requires advanced engineering technology and highly precise specifications. Until now, only Japan, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and a few countries in Europe had the capability to build such vessels.
China has invested over 100 million Renminbi (approximately 12.5 million USD) in research for liquefied gas ships in previous years and signed the contract for its first liquefied gas carrier in August 2004. The first liquefied gas carrier measures 292 meters in length, 43.35 meters in width, and has a capacity of 147,200 cubic meters, with plans for it to be operational by October 2007.
