Dutch hacker group Team PI Coder has officially announced that they have successfully cracked the system software of the Xbox 360.
In their “achievement report,” Team PI Coder stated that their hacking experts had breached the security system of the Xbox 360 software. They noted that the encryption system of the Xbox 360 is quite similar to that of the older Xbox models. If this news is accurate, then less than two weeks after its official release in Europe, the Xbox 360 has already been compromised by seasoned hackers from the continent.
One hacker from Team PI Coder commented: ”We have developed an amazing tool that allows users to access all files of the Xbox 360. We decided to release the source code of this hacking program so that users can discover the system files of the Xbox 360 and create even more attractive hacking tools than ours. Currently, our tool and source code work best on the standard version of the Xbox 360.”
This hacker group has also successfully designed a tool that enables Xbox 360 users to save all game data as well as the source code. Team PI Coder mentioned that they have successfully tested their hacking tools on 13 Xbox 360 consoles. However, they have not confirmed whether pirated games can be played on the hacked consoles.
Microsoft had previously declared its Xbox 360 to be “invulnerable,” so a spokesperson for the company expressed skepticism about Team PI Coder’s ability to accomplish such a “monumental” task. Even the engineers who designed the Xbox 360 system at Microsoft had to collaborate through many stages to legally crack the Xbox 360.
