Security firms have recently warned Internet users to be extremely cautious of a new tactic designed to trick individuals into clicking on links that appear to be news articles from BBC News.
However, the page users are redirected to is a counterfeit site, and a keylogger software will be installed on the user’s computer through a security vulnerability in Internet Explorer (IE).
Hackers are exploiting the latest security flaw in the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser to execute malicious code that affects the victim’s computer. The vulnerability has been temporarily patched by eEye Digital Security.
Secunia has also advised users to disable the script support (ActiveX) feature in Internet Explorer. Users can disable this feature by going to the Internet Explorer menu, selecting Tools – Internet Options, clicking on the Security tab, and then choosing Custom Level to Disable ActiveX.
