A U.S. security company claims to have discovered the reason why Yahoo’s email service has recently faced continuous criticism for instability. It turns out that about 50% of the service provider’s servers could be “down” at any given time.

The company trimMail attempted to send out 240 test emails to 16 of Yahoo’s servers within half an hour, but only received responses from 133 emails. After repeating the experiment multiple times, the operational rate of the email servers fluctuated between 25% and 75%.
Yahoo has been criticized by users for providing a “terrible” service. However, the company explained that these were just rare cases that occurred over a short period and did not affect service quality.
In a test conducted by the tech news site TechWorld, 6 out of 16 of Yahoo’s email servers were found to be unavailable, whereas MSN’s Hotmail service had only 4 down.
Yahoo has not yet commented on this new finding.
