Hanoi Collects Pet Birds |
According to the decision made by the People’s Committee of Hanoi, on the afternoon of November 15th, all wholesale markets such as Long Bien Market and Cau Giay Market have removed slaughter points. Small trading spots are no longer allowed to freely display various types of pre-slaughtered poultry. However, dry goods stores still exhibit a variety of poultry eggs, albeit with no customers present.
While the ban is strictly enforced at markets, the sale of pet birds along certain streets has not been thoroughly addressed. Many families have circumvented the ban by relocating their pet birds to suburban districts to entrust them to acquaintances.
Ho Chi Minh City: Slaughtering and Destroying 80% of Poultry
* Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thao – Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City – stated that as of November 15th, the city had over 700,000 poultry, with more than 80% already slaughtered and destroyed.
According to Mr. Thao, the issue of consuming and disposing of poultry is still problematic in two districts, Binh Chanh and Cu Chi (approximately 80,000 birds), as these birds have not reached the weight of 1 kg each and therefore cannot be sold for meat. Currently, there are no specific regulations in place regarding support policies for these smaller poultry.
