Destruction of All Poultry in Urban Areas Starting November 17
This case involves a 75-year-old woman who was hospitalized at Dong Da Hospital with a high fever and severe breathing difficulties, exhibiting symptoms similar to avian influenza. She was transferred to Bach Mai Hospital and passed away on November 10. According to her family, she frequently consumed chicken porridge prior to her hospitalization.
Currently, her samples have been sent for H5N1 testing at the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
* According to information from the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, a young man residing in Dong Da District, Hanoi, who was suspected of being infected with H5N1, has tested negative for the virus. As reported by Tuổi Trẻ on November 14, this patient was admitted to the Institute of Tropical Diseases on November 11.
* Dr. Hoàng Hồng Thái from the Respiratory Department of Bach Mai Hospital confirmed that the patient suspected of H5N1 and tested negative, identified as N.M.T. (from Dong Da, Hanoi – see Tuổi Trẻ, November 3, 4, 5), has been discharged in good health.
* Starting November 17, the entire city of Hanoi will implement a comprehensive inspection to manage and destroy all poultry within the urban area. In the suburban areas, households raising free-range poultry or those not meeting sanitary conditions and unregistered according to regulations will be subject to further action by authorities. Currently, the Thanh Xuan and Hai Ba Trung districts have begun wide-scale poultry destruction. The city has also issued a directive outlining support policies for households voluntarily destroying sick poultry.

Quang Nam: Ban on Poultry Farming in Tam Ky Urban Area
On the morning of November 14, Hoàng Xuân Việt, chairman of the Tam Ky Town People’s Committee, announced that a ban on poultry and ornamental bird farming has been issued within the urban area. All concentrated poultry farms have been vaccinated and relocated to the suburbs.
As of the morning of November 14, three new avian influenza outbreaks have emerged in the Bình Trung and Bình Quý communes of Thang Binh District, Quang Nam. Three flocks of chickens, totaling nearly 2,000 birds from three households in these communes, have died en masse, and veterinary forces have destroyed all affected chickens.
