A research team from Harvard University conducted a survey and discovered that the number of push-ups one can perform may predict cardiovascular disease risk. The study involved 1,000 volunteer firefighters, averaging around 38 years of age. Men aged 50-60 who can do more than 30 push-ups in a set have excellent fitness, around 20 push-ups indicate good fitness, and more than 10 push-ups suggest average health.
Men over 60 who can perform more than 20 push-ups show excellent fitness, more than 10 push-ups indicate good fitness, and more than 8 push-ups suggest average health.
Men over 50 who cannot perform at least 10 push-ups should focus on regular exercise, as their risk of disease will increase otherwise.
