On October 26, during a conference on bird flu prevention and control held in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Phuoc Thao, the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, announced that the city’s upcoming policy will involve the culling of all poultry flocks in the area if any outbreaks of bird flu occur.
If no outbreaks are detected, all poultry and waterfowl farming activities must cease by November 27 at the latest (potentially sooner depending on the actual situation). Therefore, following Mr. Thao’s recommendation, poultry farmers in the area must immediately stop introducing new livestock to avoid economic losses.
Many farmers have expressed that handling small-scale farming operations needs to be more resolute. Additionally, they have requested that the city quickly implement reasonable support policies for farmers transitioning to other occupations.
