According to statistics from scientists, many people constantly deal with sleep disturbances, each with their own unique issues. Recently, an American expert studying human sleep, Jach Lee from New Jersey, shared useful research findings that can help individuals choose a suitable sleeping position.
Individuals with Heartburn Should Sleep with a Higher Pillow
Experts suggest that heartburn disrupts the sleep of many individuals, and the best solution is to use an additional pillow to elevate the head while sleeping. This position keeps stomach acid in place, preventing it from rising. Additionally, sleeping on your left side with raised knees ensures that the esophagus is positioned higher than the stomach, further minimizing acid reflux.
Snorers Should Sleep on Their Stomach or Side
Snoring can be bothersome to others and may even cause the snorer to wake up multiple times during the night. You are more likely to snore when sleeping on your back because gravity pulls soft tissue in your airway down into your throat, leading to snoring sounds. Therefore, sleeping on your stomach or side can reduce snoring by 80%.
Individuals with Kidney Stones Should Sleep in Various Positions
Experts indicate that individuals with kidney stones who sleep in the same position every night increase their risk of developing stones on one side by 75% (either the left or the right). Staying in one position can hinder blood circulation to that kidney, affecting its ability to filter minerals, which are contributors to kidney stones.
Heart Patients Should Sleep on Their Right Side
Heart patients often have enlarged hearts. If they sleep on their left side, the heart may press against the chest, causing palpitations (rapid heartbeat) and coughing. Sleeping on the right side allows the heart to shift slightly, improving its function, and likely leads to better sleep overall.
