A meteor from the Leonis Minorid group exploded in the sky over Puerto Rico.
The meteor glowed with a blue light.
In the early morning of December 6 (local time), a meteor streaked across the sky of Puerto Rico, a spectacular sight captured by Frankie Lucena in Cabo Rojo. In Lucena’s video, the meteor, part of the Leonis Minorid group, emits a green glow before exploding, leaving a bright trail of debris that lasts for several seconds in the sky.
The Caribbean Astronomical Society confirmed that several meteors were observed in the early hours of the same day. Among them were meteors from the Sigma Hydrids group and a prominent blue streak from the Leonis Minorid meteor. According to the Society, this bright trail lasted for nearly a minute, attracting the attention of astronomers.
This meteor phenomenon is part of significant astronomical events occurring in December, as Earth passes through dust trails left by ancient comets. Experts suggest that this presents a rare opportunity to witness the fascinating natural beauty of the universe.
