On April 3rd, a video with the keyword “Wuhan heavy rain, day turns into night” surfaced on social media search engines in China, sparking lively discussions among netizens.
At around 3 PM local time on April 3rd, the sky over Wuhan, China was shrouded in dark clouds, with heavy rain accompanied by thunder and strong winds.
Immediately after the video was posted, discussions erupted on Chinese media platforms. One netizen commented: “Is this a science fiction movie?”
Another person complained: “Who would think this is 3 PM? It looks like 3 AM!”
According to CCTV, the localized rainfall in Wuhan reached 24.7 mm within one hour from 2 PM to 3 PM. The Central Meteorological Observatory of Wuhan issued a red alert for thunderstorms and strong winds at 4:01 PM.
The national meteorological observatory reported that not only in Wuhan but across most regions of Hubei province, rain was prevalent from early morning to the afternoon of April 3rd, with heavy rain occurring in eastern Hubei. From 8 AM to 2 PM, rainfall in many areas of eastern Hubei ranged from 30 to 50 mm, characterized by heavy, short-term, and unevenly distributed precipitation.
