With such a high rate of dengue fever cases, doctors have issued warnings about the risk of an outbreak in the southern region.
At the end of 2005, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City also warned that dengue fever was at risk of becoming an epidemic in many southern provinces in the early months of 2006.
In 2005, the total number of dengue fever cases in the southern region exceeded 44,000, with 47 fatalities. The provinces with the highest number of cases were Dong Thap (6,658 cases), Ho Chi Minh City (6,254 cases), and An Giang (2,854 cases).
According to the Ministry of Health, the country has recorded over 4,800 cases of dengue fever since the beginning of 2006, with 2 deaths reported. Compared to the same period in 2005, the number of dengue fever cases has increased by nearly 20%.
In the northern provinces, due to cold and humid weather, respiratory diseases continue to rise significantly. Among these, many cases have been identified as respiratory infections caused by Adenovirus, primarily affecting children from a few months to 10 years old.
