Hermann Rorschach was a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst known for developing a psychological test called the Rorschach inkblot test.
The images created from inkblots can help you explore your innermost desires as well as your deepest fears.
Observe each image and imagine what you see. Choose your answer. Then, read the corresponding results right below.
What do you see here?
You see:
1. An X-ray of the chest, showing a red heart, lungs, and blood?
2. A quirky professor with a white beard, hair tied on top, and a large nose?
3. A stingray?
Results, If you see:
1. X-ray: You have a lot on your mind. You want to express them but prefer to suffer in silence rather than stir things up. Overall, you find it very difficult to say “no.”
2. Professor: You are very generous and kind, always thinking of others rather than yourself. You would make a good friend and always have good thoughts.
3. Stingray: You tend to put yourself in second place. This means you are accustomed, though not always comfortable, to standing alongside powerful, more capable figures. As a result, sometimes you may feel regret for a mistake you made.
What do you see here?
You see:
1. A pair of ostriches standing facing each other with feather scarves?
2. A beetle with crab claws?
3. Sunglasses, a bra, or a mustache?
Results, If you see:
1. Ostrich: You feel the allure of strong sensations, although sometimes you may not like what you felt yesterday. You seem easily swayed by high emotional states, either taking things too seriously or being indifferent, unconcerned with “the ways of the world.”
2. Beetle: You are very hardworking, so success comes to you naturally. You plan and execute everything meticulously.
3. Sunglasses/bra/mustache: You enjoy dressing up, although you may often worry excessively about what others think of you. You tend to seek external solutions, like a new car or new clothes, for your inner troubles and discomforts.
What do you see here?
You see:
1. A muscular man displaying his muscles?
2. A scorpion?
3. A fallopian tube?
Results, If you see:
1. Muscular man: You are very capable, able to master everything within your reach. Your intelligence is innate, and moreover, you possess an admirable decisiveness. You take pride in being able to face any challenge.
2. Scorpion: You are strong, with a naturally well-proportioned body like a true bodybuilder. Therefore, having to adhere to a strict diet or sleep schedule would be a “disaster” for you, as you are very physically sensitive but not emotionally sensitive. Anything resembling a treatment regimen makes you tense.
3. Fallopian tube: You have considerable inertia. In life, you take on many tasks but can still calmly wait for each to unfold. Your ideas about how everything should go – for example, who you should be with, what you should do – are very vivid, and if reality does not meet your expectations, significant achievements will provide some consolation.
What do you see here?
You see:
1. A clown with an oversized nose, a melting face, or an image of someone sticking out their tongue?
2. A lady in a red dress lifting her skirt over a pair of dancing dolphins?
3. A long-lost favorite toy?
Results, If you see:
1. A clown: You are a sociable person, eager to seek out friendships. However, in your behavior, you tend to be quite aloof, always keeping a certain distance from those around you. This habit may cause concern among your friends.
2. The lady in the red dress: You have a great attraction but often follow a rather quiet style, with a hint of romantic gloom. This draws attention to you, but it doesn’t help much in expressing your personality and essence.
3. Toy: When things get tough, you tend to retreat to the past, to a time when you felt you belonged to this beautiful world and did not have to struggle to prove yourself.
What do you see here?
You see:
1. A mouth with a tongue, tonsils, and throat?
2. A pair of newly hatched chicks?
3. A red-haired cat with claws possibly eating a butterfly?
Results, If you see:
1. Mouth: You truly hold power and the ability to control everything. The strength emanates from your personality, your talent, and your sociable habits, causing the room (and life) to change order when you enter.
2. Chicks: You are very gentle and thoughtful, knowing how to take care of others and not afraid to show that concern without expecting anything in return. However, you are not entirely sure that everyone loves you.
3. Cat: Sometimes your relationships resemble a slowly deflating bicycle tire. You can express a lot, but you are not entirely sure that it will be effective. You feel somewhat immature yet cannot explain why.
The Rorschach Test is a psychological test in which the subject’s perception of inkblots is recorded and then analyzed through psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. Some psychologists use this test to assess a person’s personality traits and emotional functioning. It has been used to detect thought disorders, especially in cases where patients are reluctant to publicly describe their thought processes. The test is named after its creator, Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach. In the 1960s, the Rorschach test was the most widely used projective test. Although the Exner scoring system (developed since the 1960s) claims to have addressed and often dismissed many initial criticisms of the testing system with a body of research, several researchers continue to raise questions. The discussed issues include the objectivity of the test, the reliability among expert evaluators, the verifiability and overall validity of the test, the bias of the pathological scales with a high number of responses, the limitations of the psychological conditions it accurately diagnoses, the inability to reproduce the test standards, its use in court-ordered evaluations, and the increase of ten inkblot images, which may render the test ineffective for those who have previously been exposed to them.
