The latest football from Adidas designed for Euro 2024 features grooves and aerodynamic dimples that help control airflow across the ball’s surface.
On June 14, 2024, the UEFA European Championship (Euro 2024) kicked off with a match between Germany and Scotland at the Allianz Arena, running for a month. Like other football tournaments, the ball plays a crucial role throughout the competition. Adidas’s brand new design, named Fussballliebe, combines the German words for “football” (Fußball) and “love” (Liebe), and is set to be the official ball for Euro 2024. This is considered one of the most advanced and high-tech balls in the history of football, according to Give Me Sport.

The design of the ball can impact the game. The Adidas ball aims to mimic the flight path and energy of the game through its black wing-like patterns highlighted by vibrant splashes of red, blue, green, and orange. These colors represent the excitement international teams bring to the tournament. They also embody the simplicity of football, appealing to fans worldwide.
The outer shell of the ball, known as Precisionshell, features dimples across 20 panels that are deliberately arranged after meticulous laboratory research to control airflow through the ball for maximum accuracy. Grooves and dimples have become standard in modern footballs, utilizing interconnected panels instead of stitched pieces.
Additionally, the outer shell of Fussballliebe is enhanced by Adidas’s innovative CTR-CORE technology, previously used in the Al-Rihla ball for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which boosts accuracy and consistency. The ball’s exterior design meets the demands of the fast-paced playing style of European teams while maintaining an ideal spherical shape throughout the match and ensuring optimal air pressure.
“When designing the ball, we drew inspiration from the energy and cultural diversity of the tournament as well as Europe’s passion for football. With this in mind, we hope Fussballliebe will bring joy wherever it is played,” said Sam Handy, Vice President of Production and Design at Adidas Football.
In terms of materials, Fussballliebe is made from eco-friendly resources, including recycled polyester, water-based inks, and sustainable biomaterials such as corn fibers, sugarcane, wood chips, and rubber. This makes Fussballliebe Adidas’s most environmentally friendly ball to date.
