The video recorded in Tadoba National Park, Maharashtra (India), shows how a mature tiger struggled when facing a black bear.
In the video, the tiger is seen as the aggressor, breaking the tranquility of a pair of black bears, belonging to the Tibetan black bear species.
Despite the bear’s attempts to threaten, the tiger advances and quickly overpowers its prey with its strong muscles and sharp claws.
In one segment, the tiger manages to bite the bear’s neck and attempts to flip it onto the ground.
However, the bear’s strength and resilience allow it to hold its ground in the battle. It can be seen curling up into a ball to avoid being placed in a dangerous situation, although this choice makes it nearly impossible for the bear to inflict damage on the tiger.
After exhausting itself without being able to subdue its opponent, the tiger begins to show visible signs of fatigue, as if it wants to give up.
At this point, the bear regains the upper hand. It uses its remaining strength to charge, forcing the adversary to jump into a nearby river to retreat.
Clearly, even a powerful tiger cannot easily deal with an opponent as large and strong as a true “wrestler.”
The tiger approaches and attacks the black bear.
Tibetan black bears, also known as Himalayan black bears or Asian black bears, are medium-sized bears with sharp claws, black fur, and a distinctive white or cream “V” shape on their chest.
They measure about 1.3 to 1.9 meters in length. Males weigh approximately 110 to 150 kg, while females are lighter, weighing about 65 to 90 kg.
They are omnivorous, primarily preferring berries, honey, grass, seeds, nuts, as well as mollusks, meat, fish, birds, rodents, and other small mammals.
They are known to be quite aggressive, sometimes attacking humans. However, this may be a consequence of deforestation, which forces bears to lose their habitat and live closer to humans.
The Asian black bear is listed in the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as one of the vulnerable species among those threatened with extinction.
