On December 6th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment launched a project to build 14 ground subsidence monitoring networks, with a total investment of over 6 billion VND.
The three main stations will be located in Binh Chanh and Binh Tan districts, along with 11 auxiliary stations in districts 6, 11, Binh Tan, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu, expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2006.
Significant Potential for Vietnam-India Science and Technology Cooperation
During the recent 5th meeting of the India-ASEAN Science and Technology Working Group held in Gurgaon, India, Mr. Pham Quang Viet, the Science and Technology Attaché at the Vietnamese Embassy in India, emphasized the vast potential for cooperation in science and technology between Vietnam and India.
According to Mr. Pham Quang Viet, India possesses numerous strengths in biotechnology, information technology, new materials technology, space technology, and nuclear technology, especially in the information technology sector, where software and services exports represent the fastest-growing area.
In the fiscal year 1999-2000, India’s software and services export turnover reached 1.7 billion USD, increasing to 6.24 billion USD in the fiscal year 2000-2001, with a target of reaching 50 billion USD by 2008.
Mr. Viet hopes that in the near future, both countries will maximize their potential in the fields of science and technology.
He noted that since the first meeting, the two countries have implemented 9 projects, including the development and production of oilseeds; the manufacturing of automatic telephone counting devices based on microprocessors; promoting cooperation in scientific and technological information exchange; exploring non-biological resources along Vietnam’s central coast; integrated coastal management; and investigating coastal erosion and sedimentation in central Vietnam.
