Hoang Lien National Park – Lao Cai was established in 1996 and was previously a nature reserve. It is the first area listed in the system of special-use forests in Vietnam.
According to scientists’ assessments, Hoang Lien National Park is one of the centers of biodiversity, home to many endemic species recorded in the World Red List that need to be conserved and preserved. Currently, Hoang Lien National Park still holds many mysteries regarding ancient plant species and numerous other endemic species that have yet to be researched and discovered.
Mr. Le Xuan Canh, Head of the ASEAN Biodiversity Conservation Office in Vietnam, stated: “Hoang Lien National Park has been recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park, which means it attracts tourists to this location to enjoy the pleasures of ecotourism. Therefore, a critical question arises: will the exploitation of this national park for tourism purposes affect the natural landscape of the forest, which local authorities and national and international scientific research organizations are diligently working to protect?“.
