While it is known that “big fish eat small fish” is a natural law, witnessing the violent hunts of wild animals can evoke feelings of pity in many people.
Hyenas are relatively common carnivorous animals in Africa, playing a crucial role in maintaining the ecosystem here. With their grotesque appearance, cold-blooded nature, and ruthless behavior, including the possibility of eating their own young, it’s easy to understand why hyenas are among the most despised animals on Earth.

For many, hyenas are considered one of the last witch animals, endowed with the power of demons and dark forces. In fact, some African cultures even believe that witches can turn into hyenas to harm others.
Despite their bad reputation, it cannot be denied that hyenas, like many other carnivorous animals, need a sufficient food supply to survive in the harsh natural environment.
Although their hunting methods may not be “noble and just”, few animals can match their effectiveness.
In Africa, spotted hyenas rank just below lions (when they encounter each other alone) in terms of strength. Sometimes, hyenas even “bully” lions when they have the advantage of numbers.

The fearsome sight of a hungry pack of hyenas hunting was captured by Matthew during his travel adventure.
On that day, while traversing breathtaking paths to catch the sunset, Matthew and his friends expressed their desire to the guide to see a “real-life leopard.”
The zebra fiercely defends itself.
It took the group an entire afternoon to fulfill their wish of encountering a leopard wandering on the road. Not only that, they also hoped to catch a glimpse of its cubs, deciding to follow and observe. Unfortunately, its cubs were not nearby. Just as they were preparing to leave, they suddenly spotted a hyena blocking the path ahead.
Upon closer inspection, Matthew discovered that there were actually five hyenas cornering a zebra, cutting off all escape routes.
But “one tree cannot make a mountain,” so it had to succumb.
Moreover, the zebra looked even more pitiable with injuries to its hind legs, losing its ability to escape.
Witnessing the scene before them, everyone present knew that no miracle could save the zebra. Despite its desperate resistance, faced with the overwhelming ferocity of the hungry pack, the zebra ultimately had to give in and accept its fate.
