The Central Region is facing prolonged rainfall, with many areas warned of the risk of flooding, flash floods, and landslides. In reality, after each flood, families suffer significant losses as their appliances and electrical devices are submerged in water. Some individuals have even died from electric shocks.
So, how can we ensure electrical safety during the rainy season?
In an interview with Tiền Phong, Mr. Lê Hoàng Anh Dũng, Deputy General Director of the Central Power Corporation (EVNCPC), stated that EVNCPC has coordinated with local authorities to encourage residents to check and replace unsafe electrical lines after the meter; to install warning signs in areas at risk of violating the safety corridor of high-voltage power lines; to clear vegetation along the corridor, and to trim trees outside the corridor that may fall onto electrical facilities during storms.
Residents’ electrical appliances submerged for days in floodwaters.
For households, electrical experts advise that in the event of flooding, all circuit breakers and main switches in the house should be turned off. Unplug electrical devices from the power source. When the water recedes and power is not restored, it is essential to thoroughly check all electrical devices in the home to prevent fire hazards or short circuits, which could pose risks to both people and equipment due to prolonged damp conditions.
Mr. Dũng also emphasized that households should use electrical wires and devices that meet safety standards. If a power line is broken, falls to the ground, or trees fall onto the line or electrical station, do not approach the area, and signal to prevent people and vehicles from entering the affected zone. Additionally, report immediately to the EVNCPC Customer Care Center at 19001909 for prompt handling to minimize risks to life and property.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from October 13 to October 16, rivers in the provinces from Nghệ An to Quảng Nam are expected to experience a flood wave, with flood levels rising in the upstream sections of rivers by 3-8 meters and downstream by 1-4 meters.
During this flood wave, the peak water level in the upstream section of the La River (Hà Tĩnh), as well as rivers from Quảng Bình to Quảng Nam, is expected to reach warning levels 1 and 2, and above warning level 2; smaller rivers and streams may rise to warning level 3; the downstream of the La River fluctuates around warning level 1.
There is a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and localized flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and urban areas in the provinces from Nghệ An to Quảng Nam.
