The engine compartment of the Tangier ship is a heavy metal block weighing 285 tons and is one of the largest components of the vessel. This will be the space that houses the ship’s engine to rotate the propeller shaft.
This engine compartment was constructed at one of the gigantic workshops of the Sungdong Shipyard. Once completed, the massive engine compartment will need to be moved from the workshop to the assembly area of the Tangier ship.
As there were no cranes available, the technicians had to choose an alternative solution by utilizing a special piece of equipment. This was a multi-wheeled transport vehicle with a load capacity of up to 430 tons. It resembles a gigantic flatbed mounted on wheels. Its low center of gravity makes it suitable for transporting bulky goods.
IL-Sin Lee, 35 years old, is the person responsible for moving this massive steel block. He will have to drive the transport vehicle carrying the enormous engine compartment under nearly blind conditions. Meanwhile, the route is constantly plagued with potholes and tracks.
IL-Sin Lee must drive cautiously and keep the speed at a minimum of 5 km/h. Additionally, he needs to carefully maneuver the vehicle around equipment and structures along the way. Upon reaching the destination, his final task is to lower the cargo into the required position. IL-Sin Lee successfully completed this task with great skill.
