During festive seasons, people often indulge and forget about their regular diet and exercise routines. After a week of indulgence, you might look in the mirror and realize, unfortunately, that your waistline has expanded a few centimeters and your body feels sluggish, making it hard to get back to work.
How can you enjoy the holiday fully while maintaining your health to start the new year right? The following tips will help you:
1. Limit fatty foods
During the holidays, it’s hard to resist delicious dishes like braised pork, sticky rice cake, and more, but these foods can lead to weight gain! To reduce your food intake, try to divide your meals into smaller portions and eat a little at a time. Additionally, make sure to include plenty of vegetables and fruits — which are not hard to find during the holidays, right?
2. Drink plenty of water
On regular days, you are advised to drink eight glasses of water a day. During the holidays, this becomes even more important because you usually consume more soft drinks or beer than water. These beverages and others like alcohol, tea, and coffee only quench your thirst and do not hydrate your body as effectively as water. Make an effort to drink plenty of water throughout the day; if you’re dehydrated, your body will signal you to eat more to compensate for the lack of water.
3. Try to maintain your exercise routine
Typically, during the holidays, you spend a lot of time cooking, cleaning, and visiting relatives, leaving little time for exercise. Moreover, gyms may be closed during this period. So why not work out at home? Full-body movements will help you burn off excess calories and boost your spirits.
To avoid being swept away by holiday festivities, you can write down your workout schedule on a wall calendar. Just 15-30 minutes of exercise each day during the holidays will leave you feeling invigorated and ready to tackle your goals for the new year.
Wishing you a joyful and healthy holiday season!
