New products from the x86 server line featuring the latest dual-core technology from Intel – the Intel Xeon DP processors – were introduced by HP on February 21, 2006, in Ho Chi Minh City during the roadshow titled “HP Proliant Dual Core Server“. The program is also set to take place in Hanoi and Jakarta (Indonesia) in the near future.
According to HP, initially, the company will launch HP ProLiant DL380 servers with 2 processors, HP ProLiant ML570, and DL580 with 4 processors. The new HP ProLiant servers utilizing the new Intel Xeon dual-core processors can enhance enterprise application performance by up to 44%. HP also plans to expand its ProLiant server line with new products that utilize Intel Xeon dual-core processors and produce these new products in large quantities.
Mr. Ricky Chu, the director of industrial standard server products for HP in the Asia-Pacific region, stated, “Most organizations currently use single-core processor servers, but at this point, we encourage customers to adopt dual-core or multi-core systems due to the superior features of these products.” HP officials also predict that 2006 will be a transitional period for businesses to switch to dual-core processor servers, 2007 will be the year of these servers, and by 2008, multi-core processor servers will dominate the market.
