A pod of dolphins swimming in front of fishing boats near Mui Doi – the easternmost point on the Vietnamese mainland, on August 31.
Hundreds of dolphins appeared in the waters near Mui Doi.
On the afternoon of August 31, Nguyen Ky, a 23-year-old fisherman from Van Ninh district, took his boat out to sea for fishing. About 10 kilometers south of Mui Doi, he encountered a pod of dolphins, each measuring 2.5 to 3 meters long swimming on the water’s surface.
The dolphins stayed near the fishing boat for about 30 minutes before heading out to the East Sea and diving underwater. “Besides some dolphins jumping on the surface, there were many swimming below; the pod must have numbered in the hundreds,” Ky said.
This marks the second time this year that a large pod of dolphins has been spotted in the waters of Khanh Hoa. In mid-June, fishermen also encountered a similar pod near Hon Gam, located in Van Phong Bay, Van Ninh district.
Dolphins are marine mammals, ranging from 1.2 to 9.5 meters in length and weighing between 40 kg to 10 tons. They typically live in shallow waters in pods of dozens to hundreds. Known for their friendly nature, dolphins are intelligent and can be trained to perform tricks.
