Seoul National University, South Korea, has just established an investigation committee to verify the authenticity of Professor Hwang’s stem cell research, with results expected in 1-2 weeks.
The investigation committee consists of 10 members, led by Professor Jung Myung-hee from the College of Medicine. The committee has stated that they may repeat experiments if necessary.
Meanwhile, during a press conference after his discharge from the hospital, Professor Hwang Woo-suk denied allegations regarding the integrity of his research, asserting that he successfully created stem cells. He also mentioned that during his research, six stem cells were lost due to contamination in the storage facility. The research team attempted to recover the stem cells preserved at Mizmedi Hospital, but were unsuccessful. Later, during the verification process, he noticed changes in the number of stem cells at Mizmedi Hospital.
Professor Hwang believes that the results of the stem cell research verification could restore trust both domestically and internationally.
