During the donation of HIV/AIDS treatment medications from the Indian government to the Ministry of Health of Vietnam on July 12, Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga, Director of the Department for HIV Prevention (Ministry of Health), stated that the donation of 8,200 treatment pills today aims to establish relations between the Indian government and the Ministry of Health of Vietnam in coordinating the production of ARV medications.
Currently, Vietnam produces ARV medications for HIV/AIDS patients but does not yet meet the criteria for certification from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Therefore, the Indian government will assist Vietnam in producing HIV/AIDS treatment medications through pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. At present, the amount of ARV medications produced by Vietnam is only sufficient to supply over 2,000 HIV/AIDS patients, while the demand among patients is very high.
In an effort to provide comprehensive information about HIV/AIDS, the Vietnam Department for HIV/AIDS Prevention has recently launched an electronic information portal at www.vaac.gov.vn. This portal aims to deliver information about HIV/AIDS to organizations and individuals interested in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention.
The site regularly updates information about HIV/AIDS both globally and domestically, supporting the government’s efforts to direct the prevention of HIV/AIDS, as well as the National Committee for AIDS Prevention and the prevention of drug addiction and prostitution, and the Ministry of Health. The portal is available in both Vietnamese and English.
