Russia is set to launch Iran’s first satellite into space next week. This satellite is believed to be intended for telecommunications and natural disaster research.
The Kayhan newspaper cites a statement from the Iranian government representative in Moscow, indicating that Iran’s Sina satellite will be launched from the Plesetsk launch center next Thursday, alongside three other satellites from Russia, China, and the United Kingdom.
Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that they are progressing towards launching their first artificial satellite. In July, former Iranian Deputy Minister of Telecommunications Hassan Shafti announced that a telecommunications satellite codenamed “Mesbah” (Lantern) would be launched this year.
He mentioned that Iran has plans to manufacture five satellites, three of which are scheduled to be launched within the next three years.
