Famous Internet Search Engines Today |
The Japanese government, high-tech companies, and universities will collaborate to develop their own internet search technology instead of relying on Google.
According to the Japanese Ministry of Commerce, this month, a research group comprising over 20 companies and domestic universities will convene in Tokyo to outline a common development plan. The initial drafts of the project are expected to be completed around July 2006.
Domestic companies will include renowned electronics conglomerates such as Matsushita Electric Industrial, Hitachi, NEC, Fujitsu, Nippon Telegraph & Telephone (NTT), and NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation).
As reported by Nihon Keizai, the development project for the internet search engine is expected to span several years, with a kickoff planned for April 2007 and a budget of tens of millions of USD.
