Project: “Pilot Project for Widespread Computer Literacy and Knowledge Networking for Vietnamese Youth” was announced by the Vietnam Youth Union on the morning of May 30th in Hanoi. On June 2nd, the project will officially launch in Da Nang.

Organized by the Central Youth Union and approved by the Prime Minister at the beginning of 2006, the project will mobilize 2,700 youth members (students or public servants) with IT skills from colleges, universities, and various provinces, to undergo training. These volunteers will then be organized into teams named “Thang Giong” (each team consisting of 5 members) to travel to localities and establish computer literacy classes for rural youth.
A representative from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union stated that the project has very specific objectives: To promote computer literacy and knowledge networking for 27,000 youth aged 13 and older in 270 communes across 9 provinces. Each 5-day class model will primarily cover basic computer knowledge, document processing, and Internet utilization.
In an interview with VietNamNet, Mr. Tran Quoc Huy, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, shared: “Promoting computer literacy and enhancing IT application is a major goal, and it requires cooperation between the government and the people. Given the specific conditions of this project, we can only proceed step by step with the promotion, providing computer equipment for teaching. Once the community sees the benefits of IT, they will surely begin to share knowledge among themselves and invest in computers. That will be our greatest success…”.
It is known that on June 2nd, the first launch of the “Pilot Project for Widespread Computer Literacy and Knowledge Networking for Vietnamese Youth” will officially take place in Da Nang City.
