The situation of smuggled Chinese chickens is becoming increasingly complex in the “wing area” of border gates in Lang Son. In the Gianh area, the Hang Doi road frequently sees individuals breaking off and transporting smuggled chickens into Dong Dang town, where they are then transferred by Minsk trucks via the Song Giap detour into Lang Son city and subsequently shipped to provinces further inland.
This phenomenon has not only emerged recently but has persisted for many years. Despite anti-smuggling forces confiscating and destroying smuggled goods, the quantity compared to the actual scale is far too small. Notably, since April 1, 2005, the animal control checkpoints on inter-provincial transport routes in Lang Son have temporarily ceased operations. This poses a significant risk due to the heightened threat of avian influenza outbreaks.
